Hello Tibetan language learners,

Are you frustrated at lack of resources for learning Tibetan resources?

It doesn't matter if you are trying to learn colloquial Tibetan or the Dharma language aka the classical Tibetan, it can be quite frustrating to find that there just aren't enough resources.

Since we are Dharma students/practitioners, we know we shouldn't be making absolute statements just like that.

So to be accurate, there aren't enough resources for learning Tibetan as there are for learning other languages.

For colloquial learners, there are no movies, the kinds that our samsaric minds are addicted to. There are not enough documentaries that cover all sorts of interests like history, culture, animal documentary or perhaps serial killers.

For podcast lovers, there are not enough podcasts that entail natural conversations that natives have with each other.

And for classical language learners, there are a lot of books of course, but not ones that break down language and grammar of the content. Neither are there video materials that you can easily purchase which go through the contents of the text you want to study. So of course, you have to rely on language partners. And not all of them are necessarily experts or even if they are, not all of them have skills to explain to you in good English what is being conveyed.

Of course, as Tibetans interact more and more with the Western world, they also are adding more materials to the digital media that can be very helpful for language and cultural learners. For example, one of my favorite YouTube channels Bhuchung Kata is quite extensive in terms of the kinds of conversations that you can hear. But it's a very recent channel. And wouldn't it be great if there was a platform that would use such channels to help polish your language skills?

By now, you must have gotten an idea of what the aim of this blog post is and perhaps what the aim of our organization Tibetan Experts is.

We want to be another organization and if time and energy allows, a revolutionary one that changes the landscape for Tibetan language learning in general and in future, that enables cross-cultural dialogues. There are a few mysteries regarding this latter exchange I am quite excited to introduce to the world when time allows, but for now hush!!!
